Police to reopen probe into McSweeney’s phone theft

The Metropolitan Police will reopen the investigation into the theft of Morgan McSweeney’s mobile phone, which contained sensitive messages related to Peter Mandelson’s controversial appointment as US ambassador. The police admitted to failings in their initial inquiry, including examining CCTV from the wrong location. McSweeney, a key figure in Mandelson’s appointment, allegedly had his phone stolen on 20 October last year. The theft has raised questions about potential cover-ups, which Downing Street has denied. Alex Burghart stated: “The whole business stinks from nose to tail.”
