Christopher Clark, director at recruiter Definitum Search, notes that while there are large numbers of lawyers working a four-days week, the challenge for this “comes at partner level, where they will still be responsive to clients needs and can end up working a number of hours on their ‘non-working” day.” With many larger firms urging staff to be in the office more in a shift away from flexible work patterns, Nick Woolf, partner at Woolf&Co, says City law firms have, “without necessarily mandating it, started pushing harder for lawyers to be in four days a week more often than not.” While around 200 UK companies have this week announced that they will permanently switch to a four-day working week, no City law firms are doing so. However, four firms which took part in a trial of the shorter week have decided to continue with it – IMD Solicitors, JMK Solicitors, Collective Law Solicitors and Southgate Solicitors.
