Teenager avoids whole life order for murder

Nicholas Prosper has been sentenced to a minimum of 49 years in prison for murdering his mother and two siblings after they foiled his bid to execute a mass school shooting. Prosper, who idolised the Sandy Hook shooter, had meticulously planned the attack on his former primary school. During sentencing, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb stated: “Although you are indisputably a very dangerous young man, the risk to the public is met by the imposition of a life sentence.” The leniency of the sentence has sparked calls for the Attorney General to review it under the “unduly lenient” scheme, with Shadow Justice Minister Kieran Mullan arguing, “Killing three people including two children is the gravest of crimes.” Prosper’s chilling intentions and the brutal nature of the murders have raised significant public concern.
