David Lammy, the Justice Secretary, has announced a new anti-corruption strategy aimed at expediting justice in complex fraud cases through judge-only trials. Speaking at Mansion House, he emphasised that these reforms would allow specialist judges to handle serious fraud cases more efficiently. Mr Lammy said: “If you loot, if you launder, if you defraud the British people, you will be caught.” The strategy also includes £15m for the City of London police’s anticorruption unit and increased transparency in political donations. Baroness Margaret Hodge supported the initiative, saying it will “toughen the UK’s defences against dirty money.” The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax has called for called for “urgency and proper funding for the agencies on the front line,” with chair Phil Brickell ading: “We should not be allowing the world’s criminals and kleptocrats to hide and stash their dirty cash here.”
